Edward Barnsley CBE (1900–1987) was one of the leading figures carrying the Arts and Crafts tradition into the twentieth century. Working from his Hampshire workshop for more than six decades, he combined exceptional craftsmanship with restrained modern design, producing bespoke furniture for private houses, churches, cathedrals and public institutions. Through his furniture, teaching and lifelong commitment to craftsmanship, Barnsley became one of the most influential cabinet makers of his generation, ensuring the continuation of the Arts and Crafts philosophy into the modern era.
