Ernest Race (1913–1964) was a leading figure in the post-war development of modern industrial furniture. Combining innovative engineering with elegant, lightweight forms, he pioneered the use of aluminium and steel in furniture manufacture. Through Race Furniture Ltd. he produced a succession of iconic designs, including the BA3, Antelope and Flamingo chairs, which became symbols of post-war British design and established an international reputation for British furniture.
